Sustainability and Ethics
We're committed to ensuring our Indo Western collections and packaging is produced sustainably, the best we can, to protect the environment we live in and to be kinder to our planet. Throughout this journey, we have kept the end of the life cycle of our clothing in mind.
So far, we have done this by:
1. Using Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton. Organic cotton uses significantly less water to produce in comparison to non organic cotton. It does not contain any toxic chemicals such as pesticides and synthetic fertilizers which makes it better for our skin and farmers health too. Organic cotton is also biodegradable which means it can decompose in compost unlike synthetic fabrics.
2. Using corozo buttons. Corozo buttons are made out of the nut of the tagua palm tree. They are natural and biodegradable which makes it a more eco friendly option in comparison to plastic buttons.
3. Sampling and production in the UK. Although our fabric derives from India as it's grown there, to reduce the carbon footprint, our sampling and production is done in the UK. Our fabric supplier is GOTS certified. This certification ensures safe working conditions, fair wage, no forced or child labor, transparency and minimisation of unethical practices. Production in the UK provides greater transparency and assurance in compliance of labor and employment laws.
3. Using seeded swing tags and thank you cards for UK customers and recycled paper for international customers. Our swing tags and thank you cards are made from recycled materials. Rather than chucking them in the bin, you can plant them. As sending seeds overseas to specific countries is prohibited, we have used recycled paper for our international customers instead. We have even repurposed our leftover fabric to create tags for our swing tags and ribbons for packaging.
4. Using plastic free packaging. Our outer packaging is made using FSC certified paper and is recyclable. Our inner packaging is a tote bag made using GOTS certified organic cotton which you can take around with you when you're out and about.
5. Being part of the plant a tree initiative to support biodiversity, prevent soil erosion, regulate water cycles and to offset our carbon emissions. We have joined Tree-Nation to grow a tree for every product sold and to create a greener environment.
