About Ahimsa Rose

From the founder

During my younger more vulnerable years in western society, I was embarrassed of showing different parts of my South Asian culture because of what others may think. I always associated Indian clothes being worn for special occasions only. Eventually, I started to care less about what others think and more about embracing our culture because it’s vibrant, it’s beautiful and it’s rooted from ancient traditions and history.

I love clothes and as a South Asian, especially Indo Western wear (a fusion of Indian and Western designs). As much as I wanted to embrace my cultural identity through fashion, I struggled to find Indo Western clothing which I enjoyed wearing and was produced ethically and sustainably.

Then Ahimsa Rose was born.

Our mission

Ahimsa Rose was created with a mission to produce Indo Western wear which aligns with our values of and being kinder to the world we live in alongside feeling beautiful in the clothes you wear and maintaining cultural sustainability. If you’re someone who wants to do right by those who contribute towards making our clothes, if you’re someone who’s fed up of synthetic fabric clothing, especially plastic and if you’re someone who loves Indo Western clothing, then join us on our journey to make a positive change to the fashion industry.

Together we can embrace South Asian fashion without compromising on ethics and sustainability the best we can.

Meaning behind the name Ahimsa Rose

'Ahimsa' is a sanskrit word which means non violence, compassion and avoiding harm towards living creatures. We incorporate these principles by:

  • Not using any animal derived fabric, glues, ink, etc.
  • Using Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified and/or Fair Trade suppliers to ensure the safety of workers and the environment.
  • Using plastic free fabric and packaging to reduce environmental pollution and waste.
  • Manufacturing and clothes sampling in the UK to reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Being part of the plant a tree initiative to offset our carbon footprint alongside multiple other benefits. See our Sustainability and Ethics page for more.
'Rose' because we love roses! They're beautiful. Different colours represent something positive. We love that!

Let's be compassionate roses together!
